CostaRicaCE.com Becomes Carbon Neutral with Carbonfund.org
Source: www.csrwire.com and www.Carbonfund.org
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - September 14, 2007 - CostaRicaCE.com, which partners with top U.S. universities to provide dental, pharmacy and other professional continuing education courses in Costa Rica, announced two initiatives today to help protect our environment and promote responsible small business ownership.
First, CostaRicaCE.com has become a CarbonFree(TM) Small Business in conjunction with CarbonFund.org, offsetting its carbon footprint and supporting projects such as Paso Pacífico that directly impact environmental protection efforts in Central America.
Second, CostaRicaCE.com has created a program called ¡Tú Tambien! that allows course participants to offset their carbon dioxide emissions produced by their flights from North America to Costa Rica. When registering for the continuing education courses offered in conjunction with the University of Southern California ("USC"), the University of Florida, or the University of Toronto, course attendees can elect to offset their carbon footprints, for as little as $7.
This commitment places CostaRicaCE.com as an environmental leader in the education community and demonstrates proactive steps being taken in the fight against global climate change.
"Costa Rica has been a leader in environmental protection for decades, and the results can be seen throughout the country with its incredible diversity of wildlife, plant species and primary rainforests," said Douglas Benn, the founder and president of CostaRicaCE.com. "We hope our carbon neutral initiatives will contribute to this in some small way and also allow our course attendees to further this effort."
"The Carbonfund.org team is extremely proud to welcome CostaRicaCE.com to our CarbonFree(TM) Small Business Program," said Carbonfund.org’s Small Business Climate Change Specialist Lindsey vRobinett. "CostaRicaCE.com’s decision to offset its students'' travel CO2 emissions, as well as its own, shows a wholehearted commitment to combating climate change."
Carbonfund.org is a non-profit organization whose goal is to make carbon offsets and climate protection easy, affordable and a normal way of life for every individual and business. Carbon offsets enable individuals and businesses to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to offset the emissions they are responsible for in their normal activities, like home, office, driving or air travel emissions. For instance, a clean, zero CO2 wind farm can offset the carbon dioxide produced by a coal-fired power plant. By supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects Carbonfund.org will retire an equivalent amount of carbon offsets. The financial support from these offsets will then help to continue the development of clean, renewable domestic sources of energy.
Courses with the ¡Tú Tambien! program available during registration include a seven-night USC pharmacy course on Substance Abuse and Treatment, (Dec. 26, 2007, to Jan. 2, 2008), which includes a huge New Years'' Eve celebration, and the University of Toronto''s seven-night dental CE course in February 2008.
