Source: www.responsible-investor.com

Awards aim to encourage quality journalism on RI and corporate governance issues.

Hugh Wheelan

Hugh Wheelan, managing editor of Responsible-Investor.com, has won the inaugural 2010 Responsible Investment Journalism Award presented by PIRC, the UK voting research company and Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, the US law firm. The award, which is to become an annual event, was presented last night at The Globe Theatre in London.
A separate 2010 Corporate Governance Journalism Award was won by Kate Burgess of the Financial Times. The organizers said the awards were intended to recognise the important contribution that journalists make in the areas of responsible investment and corporate governance, and to encourage quality journalism.

Submissions were received from a wide range of international publications and the winners were selected by an independent panel of investment professionals and sustainability and governance specialists.
Wheelan, who co-founded, Responsible Investor with Tony Hay, publisher, has written on investment, corporate and sustainability issues for newspapers including The Observer and The Financial Times. He won the respected Aon Consulting award for European Pensions and Investment Journalist of the Year in 2006. He also previously worked as a political and economic advisor to Irene Khan, former secretary general of Amnesty International.
